Dialectical Behavior Therapy DBT treatment

What Can You Expect during the First Appointment?

Reaching out for therapy support can feel like a vulnerable moment. My goal is to make it smooth and comfortable for you. After completing the intake paperwork, we would meet an initial assessment. This is where I gather information about what prompt you to seek therapy, what is your mental health and treatment history and what your goals are. You will also get to learn my treatment approach and how we can work together to achieve your goals.

My Approach

I deeply believe in the value of offering treatment that works. Therapy is an investment of time, money and energy. I would like it to be a meaningful and rewarding experience for you. Therefore, I have focused on providing evidenced based treatment, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and Exposure with Response Prevention.

Many clients who have come to me for therapy also struggled with how negatively they view themselves and/or the world. It is totally understandable given the past experience and how, well, let’s be real, things really suck sometimes. As a lover for stories and philosophy, I have learned that how we use our words and languages significantly shape our understanding and interpretations of the reality. I strive to hold unconditional positive regard and a nonjudgmental stance for you, so you can learn and practice how to be the compassionate and gentle voice for yourself even when feeling down and worried.

As we all know, it’s always a winding road to our destination. At times, we may lose sight of our goals and question the possibility of it. In addition to be your empathetic companion for the journey, I have this unwavering centeredness to keep pushing us forward when it seems impossible. I offer specific skills to equip you with tools to tolerate distress and uncertainty, to manage our volatile emotions, to communicate with ease and confidence and to understand ourselves deeper to move beyond our stuck points rooted in the past.

My Goals

Though therapy for some of us can feel like a comforting place we wouldn’t want to let go of. I totally get it and believe we all need support in different phases of our lives. My goal for my clients is that they will be able to independently manage life and no longer need my support regularly. Yes, you heard me right. My goal is to get fired by you because the job you hire me to do is done. I say this with the deepest gratitude that we are able to form an authentic relationship that make long-lasting changes and with the utmost hope that you know what you want and you will know when extra support is needed. I got your back!
